NEW Laser Treatment Treats Nail Fungus Without Drugs or Discomfort Results!

Nail fungus infection is a condition that can be embarrassing and even painful. At our office we provide a brand new nail fungus laser treatment that offers hope in a safe and painless manner to those who have been suffering from nail fungus (Onychomycosis) infections.

How Does Onychomycosis Develop?
Fungus grows fast on moist and dirty nails. After daily shower we usually hurry up because we are late at work and  forget to dry our feet well. We put our socks and there we have it, fungus grow on our feet.

Some people perspire a lot that their feet become moist. Other people have jobs that their shoes/feet become wet, and if they wait for too long to dry their feet or change socks, and then fungus develops.

Bottom line is, when nails are exposed to WARM, MOIST environment  then fungus develop on the surface of the nail or under its outer edge.

How To Prevent Onychomycosis?
Simple rule: avoid nails to be moist and dirty. Clean nails regularly. When cleaning your nails avoid cutting or removing the deep edges around toe nails because it may be an entry point of the fungus.  If your feet perspire a lot then be sure to dry them regularly, change socks several times, and apply anti fungal powder, just like tinactin powder.

Treatment Options:
There are several ways to treat nail fungus:

1. Topical ointment and lacquer-lamisil ointment - is the agent of choice. It helps the white superficial nail fungus that is present in spots or all over the nail surface. The superficial layer of the nail can be easily scraped off with scalpel then applied with topical anti fungal ointment (don’t cut yourself if you do this at home; be sure you have sterile blade too). This may help contain, meaning it will help prevent spread of fungus, but they will not cure most cases of fungus underneath the nail. Another topical is the Penlac lacquer. This is a liquid applied 2x/day  for 6-12 months. It is effective for superficial fungus but not to cases with lunula (base of nail) involvement.

2. Systemic treatment or  oral pills - are more effective than topical but may produce liver toxicity or hepatitis. Need regular check up or blood works of liver enzymes to monitor impending damage.

Examples are:
a. Older generation, oral griseofulvin tablet taken daily for 6-12 months-high rate of hepatitis and common relapses on stopping the drugs
b. Newer drugs-lamisil and sporanox tabs-taken daily for 1 ½ to 3 months-these drugs or more effective than griseofulvin but may also cause liver toxicity

Laser Nail Fungal Therapy...
The Newest and Most Effetive Treatment for Nail Fungus:

This is the newest and most effective treatment. It is so new that most of the podiatrists and primary doctors are just starting to learn about it. In my clinic, I prescribe the usual topical and oral pills first, but for people who wants fast relief and for hard cases, I use the GOLD LIPO LASER which is a 980 nanometer diode laser. Other laser that could be used is a 1320 nanometer mid infra red laser. In a recent study, almost eighty percent of toes treated (54 cases) showed measurable increase in clear nail area. All the patients tolerated the procedure well even without anesthesia except one subject that complained a sharp pain like sensation that gradually disappeared after two months. Again the advantages are - procedure is fast, done only in a minimum of two treatments, done once a month, no need to treat daily for 6-12 months as in the case of topical ointments OR 1-3 months daily in case of oral therapy. The recurrence rate is rare and most importantly it doesn’t cause liver toxicity or death from hepatitis.

The effected nails are treated with a painless laser that produces a mild, warming sensation. The laser treatment will take about 30 minutes to treat either feet or hands, and there is no discomfort after the treatment. All ten fingers or toes can be treated at the same time to prevent cross-infection. At our offcie The physician will discuss post-treatment care to avoid fungal re-infection. New, clear growth begins to appear at the bottom portion of your nail as the diseased portion of the nail grows out. You will notice results within 2-4 months.

The nail fungus laser treatment is drug-free. There are no potential life threatening risks or possible liver damage that is associated with some prescription oral nail fungus treatments, which require constant physician monitoring and offer no guarantee of success at eliminating the fungal infection. In clinical studies the laser treatment has shown an 88% effective rate, compared to leading prescription topical treatments for nail fungus, which only provide and 8% effective rate after months of treatment.

You may return to your nomal daily routine immediately after your nail treatment, including painting your nails or doing pedicure treatments.

Laser treatment is not covered by insurance. It is all too often regarded as merely a cosmetic problem or relatively minor importance that is hardly worth the effort to resolve. The laser treatment is also expensive since it runs $700 per treatment.Because of the above, people just hide their fingernail/toenails to prevent embarrassment in social and work gatherings. Their self esteem gets diminished, avoid close relationships for fear that they may transmit the fungus to their loved ones.
